Wellcome Book Prize 2017, with Val McDermid
part of SELS 2017
At some point, medicine touches all our lives. Books that find stories in those brushes with illness are ones that add new meaning to what it means to be human.
The Wellcome Book Prize celebrates the very best of these books – fiction and non-fiction. Previous winners include It’s All in Your Head by Suzanne O’Sullivan, The Iceberg by Marion Coutts and Far from the Tree by Andrew Solomon. Following the announcement of the Wellcome Book Prize 2017 winner, which will take place on Monday 24 April, we are delighted to be joined by Chair of the 2017 Judging Panel, Scottish crime writer Val McDermid, as we celebrate this year’s extraordinary list of titles and hear more from Val about the winning book.
Val McDermid was joined on the panel by Simon Baron-Cohen, Professor of Developmental Psychopathology; Gemma Cairney, broadcaster and author; Tim Lewens, Professor of Philosophy of Science; and Di Speirs, Books Editor for BBC Radio.
